David Blount represents District 29 (Hinds County including Byram, Terry, and parts of Jackson) in the Mississippi Senate. He is an 8th generation Mississippian who grew up in Hinds County.

David was elected to the State Senate in 2007. He was re-elected in 2011 and again in 2015 with 79 percent of the vote.

David's top priority is strengthening public education in Mississippi and he serves on the Senate Education Committee. He serves as Chairman of the Senate Public Property Committee, which oversees the construction and management of 6,300 buildings owned by the people of Mississippi. Many of these buildings are located on the campuses of the state's universities and community colleges.

Senator Blount is also Vice Chairman of the Senate Elections Committee, where is an advocate for increasing voter participation and campaign finance reform. He is the lead author of the Mississippi Armed Forces Absentee Voting Act. He serves on the Elections & Redistricting Committee of the National Conference of State Legislatures and as one of two legislators in the nation on the advisory board of the federal Election Assistance Commission.
